Aluminum is a great material to use for outdoor items due to its great ability to resist corrosion and rusting.  It also has a lower density than steel which makes it lighter and better for items that may need to be lifted and moved.

 

CCIW recently used aluminum to fabricate removable pit covers.  The pit will need to be accessed occasionally, so the aluminum covers were fabricated in sections that would be easy for personnel to remove as needed.
